Deconstructing racial and religious programming - podcast recording

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

Joseph Thompson interviewed me in his office on his OPEN SPACES podcast. Having known each other now for over twenty years, he has walked some of this journey with me.

Part 1: "Deconstructing racial and religious programming isn't the same as denying reality. Join my guest and I on her, over twenty-year journey of deconstructing certain beliefs she's held." In Part 1 I share about my childhood in the Israelite Identity Movement in Tennessee, a White separatist cult that believes that the White Anglo-Saxon people are the true lineage of Jesus Christ and are the people that the Bible is about.

Listen to Part 1 here.

Part 2: "Costumes, Multi-Ethnic Kids, and Building For the Future. If we take off the costumes we all wear, we're more likely to understand the myriad ways in which people express their humanity. Only then can we truly love the way Jesus calls us to."

In Part 2, Joseph and I discuss what it was like to choose an interracial marriage and raise bi-racial children, and how we can better learn to appreciate all view points and walks of life.

Joseph Thompson describes himself on his OPEN SPACES podcast in this way:

"I absolutely thrive on adventures into the wide open spaces of life. Having traveled to 5 and lived on 3 continents, I draw on the experiences of myriad life lessons I've learned which create a common thread that knit together the passions and desires of humanity no matter who or where you are, or what season you find yourself living in. Life, put into proper perspective, can be a refreshing, informative journey, and the lessons learned along the way can serve to make us better people. You're welcome to join me on the journey!"
