On hormone replacement therapy, women’s health, emotional trauma, and listening when the body speaks…

“When any of us, male or female, is living with substantial emotional or spiritual wounding, this pain will come eventually to be expressed in our bodies. The difference is that men are often more able to ignore their unresolved issues and deny the messages of their bodies, which may perhaps account for the fact that men typically die younger.

Women, on the other hand, experience their emotional nature most vividly during certain phases of the menstrual cycle….

“We live in a society that still to a certain extent expects women to deny their needs for self-expression and growth.

It seems to me that many female conditions are actually a language through which women’s bodies are speaking of the wounds they carry from being treated with disrespect.

Women’s bodies are rebelling against being oppressed, and calling out against being dominated. Their healing requires the freedom to take control of their lives and express themselves as beings of wholeness and self worth.

“The medical profession, insofar as it views women’s bodies as pathological and treats women as dependent, thus stands in the way of their healing. Padded stirrups and speculum warmers are worthwhile changes, but do not approach the depth of the real problem.

Perhaps it is because orthodox medicine has been so patriarchal and dominating, and so consistently unresponsive to women’s deeper needs, that the healing journey for many women today no longer automatically leads to the doctor’s office or the hospital.

“The longing for true healing is carrying many women away from wherever the female spirit is dishonored, and taking them instead on a path of increasing awareness of their bodies, appreciation for their feelings, and joy in their power to create.”

- John Robbins, on Cycles, Fertility, and Personal Power in Reclaiming Our Health: Exploding the Medical Myth and Embracing the Source of True Healing

Addressing these needs is a BIG part of why I do the work I do, and host the Self-Care Circles I do, and why we have so many success stories on our team.

P.S. This book is like an expose on the last several hundred years in the health industry… it’s a must read.
